Gua Sha for Everyday Health
Gua Sha is a remarkable healing modality that has been used for thousands of years as a folk remedy in East Asian medicine to keep families healthy. In this workshop, I will demonstrate using an everyday "tool" -- a metal jar lid -- a simple press-stroking technique to the neck and upper back that can be remarkably effective when done at the first signs of a cold to help activate your body’s innate healing and help you recover more quickly. This technique can also be quite therapeutic for chronic neck or shoulder tension, allergies, and other symptoms. Gua Sha is a great tool to have in the medicine bag and is easy to learn how to do.
**While we won't have time during the session to pair up and practice hands-on, anyone who is wanting to do that -- please bring a metal jar lid, a friend to partner up with, and find me at lunch. I am happy to work with anyone who wants to practice the technique. I want you to feel comfortable going home and doing it!
Amy Hsu is a newly licensed acupuncturist who graduated with her Masters in Oriental Medicine from the Maryland University of Integrative Health in 2019. She believes that our individual health is intimately connected to the well-being of our families, our community, our society, and our planet. She loves Gua Sha and is excited to share the wisdom of East Asian medicine in a way that is meaningful and applicable to our lives today. She lives with her husband on a small homestead at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains in central Virginia, where they tend their garden and honey bees, and do their best to live in harmony with their surroundings.

Winter Herb Walk
In the quiet of winter, most plants are dormant but many leave clues to their presence in the winter landscape. This walk will focus on plant ID and will relate our experience as humans to the experience of plants through the energetics of winter.
Holly Poole-Kavana is a clinical herbalist, herb grower, and medicine-maker in Washington DC. She has operated her business, Little Red Bird Botanicals, since 2010, and also works as a midwife's assistant.

The Spiritual Side of Yoni Steaming
Learn from Thema Azize Serwa, pioneer of The Womb Sauna, how the modern expression of yoni steaming is tapping into sacred indigenous spiritual practices and the unfamiliar emotional and spiritual healing benefits that it provides. Yoni steaming is a form of energy healing that is yet to be acknowledged as such.
Your empowerment is my passion. I am Thema Azize Serwa (Tay-Mah Ah-zeez Sir-wah), visionary of The Womb Sauna! I discovered my passion to lead people to their highest potential at age 6 creating my first organization. For years I leased out my life, energy, and focus to working for others' dreams and it showed up in my womb health. That was my training ground for my own life's purpose. After experiencing a personal health crisis, my priorities changed. I harmonized my body, mind, spirit, and the rest is history. I now choose everyday to demonstrate to the world, what a whole, healthy, powerful woman looks like. As a result, other amazing women are inspired to access their own power. This is my life's work.

Flower Essences as Seasonal Medicine
I believe flower essences are one of the most gentle, yet powerful medicines that the earth provides us with. They are safe for everyone - elders, adults, children, pets - and can be effective at helping us move through stuck patterns, thought forms, physical sensations, and more. In this workshop I will talk about some of my favorite flower essences, made by plants that I've grown in my urban garden, and specifically how they can help with seasonal transitions. I will share with participants a PDF take away that discusses the flower essences we covered, their uses, and how to make them, that they can access via my website.
About Christina Taylor:
I listen. Listen to messages that often go unheard. Hearing the subtle signs that my body needs to be heard, tuning in to the rhythms of nature to find nurturing suggestions. I started practicing intuitive herbalism because it felt right. I understood the messages of plants and because of that I began to use flower essences. Through their gentle healing, a spark was lit and I dove deeper. I found that infusing herbs into different mediums each had their purpose, their healing effect. You’ll often find me sorting through jars (and jars, and jars) of herbs and concoctions. I make my offerings as gift to our bodies from the earth. It brings me joy spreading the knowledge and healing power of plants to those who seek nourishing. I am currently studying under Rosemary Gladstar and The Science and the Art of Herbalism.

Staycie Francisco comes from a long lineage of Tohono O’odham tradition bearers. She is a dedicated student of new and old ways of healing. She completed a 200 Hour RYS Hatha Yoga training (2011) and 220 Hour KRI Kundalini Yoga Level I training (2016). She studies Qigong and embodied movement. A licensed acupuncturist (2019) who is currently completing her doctorate in Oriental Medicine at MUIH and studying folk/roots herbalism at Wild Ginger Herbal Center.
