An Intro to Indigo
with Ayo Ngozi
April 28, 2024
Join us on the farm at Wild Ginger Herbal Center for an afternoon of indigo learning and play. We’ll start with a short lecture-demo about the various plants that are used as indigo dye, a bit about the plant’s long history and expansive geography, some traditional uses and techniques, and the critical role enslaved Africans played in making indigo a critical foundation of the American economy and culture. We’ll also look at how indigo is used in different ways (from paint to hair dye), and then we’ll make our own indigo-dyed projects to bring home!
